More Concrete

The footing is poured and now on to the foundation. I spoke with the builder yesterday (Friday, Jan. 30). The foundation will be poured on Tuesday (Feb. 3). Framing will begin shortly after that.

I stopped by today (Saturday) and the foundation forms are in place.

These images show how close the house is to the neighbors on each side. The set back is 5 feet from the property line on each side.

Foundation Coming Soon

I stopped by the house January 19th.

It doesn't look like much now, but I can begin to visualize how the house will fit on the property.  We are not going to have much yard.  We have already talked about terracing the back yard down to the back fence and just having a garden.  That is a project for another time.

I think this pile of rubble is to help build up the land for the garage.  Rick said it best, "Part of our old house will always be a part of the new house".

I am not a builder, so I could very well be wrong, but I think the cut out is for the stairs to the  basement.

Weather slows progress

The builder covered most of the property with plastic in an attempt to prevent a mud pit.  The weather is suppose to be drier for the next week.  Hopefully this will be a good window to get the gravel in and the footings poured.

You may notice in the right of the picture the fence has been removed.  We had the property surveyed and discovered the back fence is on the property line, but the west (right side of picture) fence is off anywhere from 1 to 2 feet.  The east fence line is off about the same, all in all the property size stays the same, just shifted a little to the west.  The neighbors have been very understanding and agreed to have the fence temporarily removed.  The plan is to put the fence back in the same location.

The property lines are important because we have a typical Portland lot, 50ft wide and about 100ft deep.  The house is 40ft wide, providing 5ft between the house and the property line.  The zoning requires 5ft between the house and property line, hence the foundation needs to be set perfectly on the property.
